STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

The realm of the Mechanical and Manufacturing industries serves as the backbone of rapid socioeconomic progress in a nation. They redefine every sector associated with human lives from agriculture and healthcare to automotive and energy.  With the advent of disruptive innovations and cutting-edge technologies like Additive Manufacturing, Computational Simulations, Machine learning Algorithms, and Autonomous Systems, these industries are at the tipping point of major transformation across the world. As a Mechanical Engineering graduate, I have attained a strong footing in the nuances of industrial operations that are governed by the laws of mechanics. However, thereafter I embarked upon my professional expedition as a Data Engineering Analyst at (Company Name). During the penultimate year of my 20-month tenure, I realized that predictive modeling and data analytics is also redefining the manufacturing landscape of the automotive, aerospace, mechatronics, and robotics industries.

Hence, these scenarios have motivated me to pivot my career toward the field of Mechanical Engineering which enthralls me the most. In my professional career ahead, I wish to develop scalable and innovative solutions that shall be instrumental in solving real-world industrial challenges. My vision is to perform effective process optimizations while leveraging technological advancements and addressing the critical needs of society. I reckon that translating this vision into reality shall require next-gen skill sets and interdisciplinary knowledge along with the multi-faceted resilience and industrial adaptability that I look forward to gaining through comprehensive academic rigor. Therefore, I have applied to study in the Master of Engineering Mechanical Engineering program at the eminent (University Name). This experiential program would equip me with rich global exposure to the latest breakthroughs and ground-breaking industrial developments.

Right from my middle school years, I have demonstrated a keen interest in the subjects of Physics and Mathematics. Owing to my growing affinity for these segments, I was well aware of the fact that my career path had to be at the intersection of these two subjects. Hence, eventually after the completion of my pre-university studies, I chose to pursue B. Tech. in Mechanical Engineering at the renowned (College Name). The highly vocational study curriculum of this program exposed me to the domains of Thermodynamics, Material Science, Fluid Mechanics, Kinematics, Thermal Engineering, and Production Technology which developed my ability to analytically solve complex engineering problems at hand. For my minor project, I diminutively explored the aspects of Steam turbines and it’s associated systems. This practical experience was a part of two-week overview training at a thermal power plant with a large capacity of 41484 MW. Here, I got to learn how an electrical power-generating unit develops and provides reliable power, related products, and services at competitive prices. I got to enrich my insights on heat transfer and aerodynamics as well as on combustion to improve fuel utilization and minimize environmental impact. The major takeaway from this industrial training was that it refined my troubleshooting proficiencies and problem-solving aptitude by leaps and bounds.

Subsequently, as a part of my major project, I was involved in the Finite Element Analysis of Cold Deep Drawing Process for Conical cops of AA-1100. Here, I implemented the Taguchi techniques and finite element analysis to assess the formability of cylindrical cups using a cold deep drawing process. The process parameters were Punch velocity, thickness, coefficient of friction, and displacement per step. It was observed that the thickness of the blank, punch velocity, and coefficient of friction significantly influenced the quality of the cup. This project solidified my detail-orientation skills and team-working capabilities as well as enhanced my grip on DEFORM-3D and ANSYS software. Apart from academics, I was also proactive on several extra-curricular fronts. I attended several technical fests and workshops like Ornithopter, Autonomous Cars, and Robo Rovers that increased my knowledge beyond the four walls of my classroom. It sparked my desire to attain rigorous industrial exposure, hence I joined Society for Space Education Research and Development for a three-month internship in Space Mission Design.

Here, a detailed study on near-earth asteroids was conducted that threw light on the feasibility and preliminary spacecraft design to be launched between the years 2027 and 2030 for an asteroid mining mission whose objective is to return 500kg of resources. My strengths in CAD and CAM for spacecraft designing gained a vocational and pragmatic dimension through this internship. After the completion of my Engineering, I bagged a working opportunity at (Company Name) as a Data Engineering Analyst. In this role, I got to work on a Common Wealth Bank of Australia project which deals in transactional and historical data and maintaining the data flow using tools such as DataStage, and AutoSys at the stage area. I also use the IBM DataStage data integration tool to design, develop and optimize workflows that move and transform data in ELT patterns. Having performed data visualization and diligent maintenance of the data workflows, I now intend to maneuver towards the pervasive branch of Mechanical Engineering that can open up a new world of gigantic opportunities for me to solve a bulk of challenging issues in the emergence of the fourth industrial revolution.

The Master of Science program in Mechanical Engineering at the (University Name) of Applied Sciences is a career-defining opportunity for me to acquire a considerable command in the arena of Computational Fluid Dynamics, Finite Element Method, Simulation of Mechanical Systems, and Computer-Based Measurement Technology. The broad choice of electives in the program shall allow me to customize my study framework and would enable me to specialize in my choice of concentration. The Research and development project, Colloquium, and Master’s Thesis shall allow me to implement my classroom learning in a real-world industrial scenario. Furthermore, the Engineering Conferences may be pivotal in aligning my industrial insights with the contemporary trends and demands of Mechanical Engineering industries.

Under the fruitful guidance of esteemed faculty professors and lecturers, I want to get involved and contribute to the ongoing industrial research projects which shall prove to be of prime relevance for my professional career years down the line. After the completion of this program, I aspire to work as a proficient CAD Engineer, Production Manager, Mechatronics Engineer, or Simulation Expert in top-notch multinational firms in the manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, or biomedical sectors. I foresee myself leading industrial projects from the forefront and churning out end-to-end efficient solutions to prove my multi-dimensional resourcefulness for my society and the world at large. On this note, I hereby submit my candidature and thank you for reading through my statement.
